James Codling in FT Advisor on seizing the UK’s Tech opportunity

In a recent FT Adviser article, Volution’s Managing Partner James Codling highlights the UK’s opportunity to reinforce its position as a global technology leader. Codling argues that despite the waning influence of the London Stock Exchange, the UK – and particularly its FinTech sector – holds significant untapped potential.

Citing a resurgence in FinTech investment and the anticipated £6bn Monzo IPO, Codling calls for urgent, strategic action to reinvigorate the City’s role in driving tech growth. He proposes the UK develop a liquid stock exchange to rival Nasdaq, capable of attracting Europe’s best high-growth tech companies.

He also stresses the need for smarter regulation, a stricter focus of tax-incentivised investment on growth sectors like FinTech, AI and clean energy, and a renewed commitment from founders and investors to build lasting economic impact within Europe.

With rival hubs such as Dubai and Singapore vying for dominance, Codling warns the UK and Europe must act decisively — or risk ceding influence to global competitors.
